A Case of Accidental Abdominal Injury

On the 8th April 1924, a coolie boy, aged 10 years, was brought to the Ram Jhora Hospital with a wound about two inches long below the umbilicus, from which some portion of the small intestine was protruding. While playing, he fell on a piece of broken glass and sustained the above injury. The boy came to the hospital on foot supporting the coil of intestine in a piece of dirty cloth. The gut was replaced under chloroform and the wound was stitched, leaving a gauze drain. The parents took the boy away to their hut a few hours later against advice. The wound healed by first intention and there was no complication.
